Living with Borderline Personality Disorder and an Addiction
Get Personalized Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder and Addiction
Seeking treatment is one of the most important steps you or a loved one can take on the journey to recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder and a substance use disorder. At Lifeskills South Florida, we know how serious and complex suffering from a mental disorder combined with a substance use disorder can be and the social, emotional, and physical challenges they can pose.
For over 25 years, Lifeskills has been a trusted provider, dually licensed to treat psychiatric and co-occurring substance use disorders for men and women ages 18 and over. Our team of dedicated and experienced professionals partner with clients and their families to design an effective plan with complex solutions in a safe and caring environment. Our holistic approach allows clients to achieve the self-awareness, self-reliance, and self-monitoring skills needed to live a more independent life once they leave treatment.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, about 1.6 percent of U.S. adults are diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, but it could be as high as 5.9 percent. When a Borderline Personality Disorder is combined with a substance use disorder, it is imperative that dual diagnosis services be acquired. Such services treat both Borderline Personality Disorder and substance abuse issues simultaneously, which helps improve a person’s chances at achieving and maintain long-term recovery.
We offer evidenced-based treatment modalities, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. The 13-week DBT skills training program, uses a combination of psychotherapy techniques, education, and individual and group psychotherapy to support the progress. In addition to DBT, core modalities include gender specific trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and cognitive remediation. The Lifeskills treatment program promotes re-integration into life beyond treatment through therapeutic structured outings that include shopping trips, recreational activities and cultural activities within the community.
As clients work through recovery towards independence, we support them through a continuum of care that includes:
- Residential Treatment: Our non-institutional, residential treatment facility gives residents access to the local community during their recovery, allowing for the adaptation of new coping skills.
- Partial Hospitalization Treatment: As clients work through independence, we offer residential treatment clients a partial level of care, which encourages clients to increase their responsibility and ownership.
- Intensive Outpatient Treatment(IOP): IOP is a step-down level of treatment from inpatient, residential or partial hospitalization programs, and designed to help support the recovery process and help to receive supportive services with ease.
- Outpatient Treatment(OP): OP is a step down from the IOP program ensuring a smooth transition while increasing independence in a life of recovery.
Lifeskills South Florida believes individuals have the intrinsic ability to change with the support of compassionate and nurturing caregivers. Our collaborative, strength-based culture partners our clients, team, family, and community to provide an innovate, flexible approach to treatment.
